Do you know how much is “one second” for a TV advertisement? During the World Cup in 2006, the price list provided by CCTV was showed as 838 thousand per second. Can you image that how much should the companies pay for their Ads during 2008 Olympic?
Why so many media tycoons are willing to pay so much money for such a copyright? Because they can get much more money than what they have paid to IOC. So, acquiring the copyright is always a war without fires in media battle. As we know that the TV copyright for 2008 Olympic Games had been sold in 1997. pls read the whole article below

So far press structure in China is always divided into two parts, institution newspaper of the Party and country as well as commercial newspaper. And the institution newspaper has two categories, one is party organs for the Party and government, such as People’s daily and local Party newspapers in every province or city etc; one is institution media for typical community, such as The China Youth Daily, The Chinese women report, Worker’s Daily, and Legal Daily etc. Both two categories of newspaper are considered as ‘broadsheet’ in China with very board sheet as a typical explicit character. The commercial newspaper takes metropolis newspaper as main component which is considered as ‘tabloid’. In contrast of the ‘broadsheet’, ‘tabloid’ has such a less narrow range that it is very convenient for people reading on bus, such as Southern Metropolis Daily, Beijing Daily, Huaxi Metropolis Daily, etc.

In 2007 at least 3 major daily newspapers will shut down their traditional print businesses in 2007 and go to an online-only model. Two will fail, and one will get purchased by Google. Also, Black-box ad networks (i.e. those where advertisers do not know where/when their ads show up) will rapidly become a thing of the past.
